The space of the kitchen is most often suggested by specialists to make in an accentuated traditional style. But not always this approach by designers is justified, because sometimes it does not correspond to the general concept of home. If the tenants need something completely opposite to the traditional room, it is worth choosing a high tech style.
Kitchen Style Description hi tech
It is possible to analyze for a long time those traits which are usually declared characteristic for ultra modern stylistics. They are often called the abundance of metal, clear lines, simplicity and conciseness, and so on. But in fact, all of this is just a derivative of the main motif, which soaks up the whole room. The fundamental factor in creating a hitech kitchen is always the maximum productivity and rational use of each square centimeter. This is why maximum emphasis is placed on saturation of the room with technology.
The criterion of practicality also dominates in the selection of materials that fit into Hi Tech design. It actively uses not only metal, but also glass and plastic elements. Each detail should seem as new and relevant as possible, the slightest shades of old fashion is unacceptable. Some exceptions are only design experiments. But behind each such experiment is many years of experience and carefully thought-out concept, so there is no risk in the independent design.
The main kitchen design parameters and preferred materials also determine the prevailing colour. In the accentuated modern room will look badly lush and fancy tones, motley multicolour. But silver, accentuated cold and even a little “ice” shades will harmoniously fit into such a composition. Besides silver paint, such variants are popular:
- a black tone of varying saturation;
- dark blue shades.
Sometimes other shades are used, but the monotonous coloring of furniture and walls will always be a must. If you use bright spots, it is only in the singular. But light, including beige, sandy and yellow surfaces can take up quite a large area.
A proven solution that has been used for decades in ultra-modern interiors is black and white contrast. It can be used in a variety of ways and combinations. However, the common feature will always be a clear boundary between white and black areas. If desired, they can be separated by inclusions of a completely different tone. In general, the choice of colors in high tech interior is much wider than it may seem. It is not desirable that the grey surface occupied more than 10% of the total area, because the abundance of this color will deprive the room of expressiveness.
But no matter how important the color aspects of the apartment design may seem, they play only a subordinate role. A lucky door or a suitably chosen wardrobe, a good looking table or incompatible decorative objects – that’s what draws attention in the first place. Contrary to popular stereotype, in high tech style it is not enough to arrange more equipment and use cold tones. Skilful design, as in other styles, involves a lot of nuances and subtleties. It’s time for them to be thoroughly analyzed.
The windows themselves in any room, including the kitchen, are usually made of PVC or metal plastic. Wooden structures, even the most elite, very poorly combined with the spirit of high tech. Differences in comparison with more traditional styles also apply to curtains. The main requirements when choosing them are:
- minimalist design;
- strict geometry;
- the exclusion of any prints;
- “metallic” and other cold colors.
In most cases, hi tech curtains are like a square or rectangle. They also take into account the specifics of the kitchen. That is, they use a fabric impregnated with mixtures:
- repellent dust particles;
- increasing the resistance to ultraviolet;
- providing fire resistance;
- supporting protection against dangerous microflora.
There are many ways to meet these requirements. Both vertical and horizontal curtains as well as roll curtains are used. The majority of high tech fabrics are sewn by direct cut method and have eyelets. As for colour, monochrome colouring prevails.
The interiors of the kitchens, stylized as spaceship deckhouses, look very well curtains decorated with plates or metalized threads.
Natural fabrics that create lush folds are best avoided. It is better to use materials with an accentuated metallic or polyethylene texture. Blinds can also be used instead of full-bodied curtains. Being practical and functional, they will be quite acceptable in a modern home. Plastic lamellas should prefer aluminum blinds.
For all the importance of windows in modern kitchens can not be ignored and wall design. As with other surfaces, there is a clear requirement: the dominance of cold colours. The impression of a trip to outer space or a visit to the laboratory must be created. In general, places where people are as close as possible to pushing the boundaries, to expand their own capabilities to the limit. High tech style will look optimal only in large kitchens; in a small area it will not reveal its aesthetic merits.
Household appliances and electronics hanging or placed in niches are welcome. You can even make an expressive accent on it. When it comes to coverings, it’s easier than it looks – even economy class finishing materials can help solve design problems. Among wallpapers preference should be given to vinyl rolls with a substrate of flizelin. Along with external appeal and compliance with the general concept, this material is practical, which is very important in a busy life.
But the usual 100% fliselin wallpaper is unacceptable. The fact that they will bring a note of warmth, coziness, natural motives – and this is hardly suitable for imitation of the premises of the starship. Plastic finishing structures – quite another thing, you can resort to them quite calmly. A wide variety of combinations, including design combinations, are allowed. It is better to avoid still lifes, romanticism and complacent home scenes, all kinds of images of the covered table.
But you can also prefer metallized wallpaper. This option has recently become the most popular among connoisseurs of futuristic design. Even the high cost of such coverage is quite justified by its aesthetic merits. Sometimes photo wallpaper of the original look is also used. Finally, you can cover the walls and artistic paintings.
The design of this plane should be made in one, maximum two colors. It is desirable to use ceramic granite or modern types of tiles. As for traditional patterns, especially represented by carpets – in the interior of high tech is a very bad idea. But it is not necessary to refuse the carpet at all: it is recommended only to choose a monochrome option. The simpler geometry, the better – pretentious decor will not look good.
There is a very simple way to create a high tech ceiling – clean the concrete layer to the base. But such simple decorative design will not suit every owner. Stretch structures with well-thought-out backlighting are most often used. The number of levels is selected individually, taking into account the concept, features of the room and its own financial possibilities.
The texture and the web shade are equally important when selecting a tension coating. The preferred option is a glossy metal surface. The same rules can also be observed when using suspended ceilings. If the ceiling is painted with multi-coloured films, it is advisable to give preference to neutral, moderately saturated tones when decorating other kitchen surfaces. They must match up well with each other.
What is categorically unacceptable is the decorative drawings. Some exceptions can be made for abstract and futuristic painting.
All design elements must be geometrically strict. The ceiling of ultramodern kitchen should not be bordered with decorative skirting boards. All the same, the tensioning cloths will be fixed without gaps.
A hi-tech kitchen, if it has a large area, is usually equipped with two-level glossy ceilings. Different colour inclusions can be used to visually separate the dining room from the working segment. To enhance the unusual sensation, it is advisable to stretch a black film with a mirrored outer layer. Point light sources are widely used. In some cases drywall structures are used.
Most often choose not diverse furniture, but above all the kitchen set. It is he who becomes the dominant element in the composition.
All surfaces must be smooth; the slightest roughness destroys the very essence of the hi tech concept.
The best options are recognized:
- shelves with glass facades;
- sliding drawer cabinets;
- Touch screen cabinets;
- steel chairs, covered with expressive, bright upholstery.
The question of which cabinets to use (hinged or built-in) is unambiguously answered by specialists – the ones you like the most.
The modern interior with a bar looks very attractive. But this counter cannot replace the usual table, as its area and functionality are not large enough. Large areas are often complemented by an island, which acts as a visual divider of space. Cabinet furniture is most often made of MDF laminated plastic; hardened glass elements are also widely used.
An important feature of modern kitchen furniture is the use of special hinges with door closers. They not only save opening and closing forces, but also reduce noise. In the kitchen, where there is already a lot of different noise, it significantly improves everyday work. In rooms of 18 square meters or more, you can use the island tables, which are built into:
- dishes compartments;
- bar counters;
- miniature fridges, wine cabinets and sinks.
Hi tech kitchen appliances

This photo shows the typical solutions for light, ultra modern cuisine. Blue and white tones dominate the interior. The abundance of built in kitchen appliances fully corresponds to the style canon. But its skilful arrangement avoids visual overloading of space with such elements. A vase with cut flowers that look as natural as possible is used to enliven the room in the order of contrast.
Another characteristic of the ultra-modern style is the abundance of straight lines and clear forms. The concise geometry allows you to relax emotionally and explore other design details. Active local backlighting helps to enhance the impression. As in the previous case, the concept designers preferred the built-in technique. Dark, expressive accents look attractive against a general light background.
Finally, let’s look at another hi-tech kitchen. Here, designers have tried to maximize the embodiment of another facet of this style – metal shine. To solve this problem are actively used glossy steel and aluminum surfaces. Their properties are emphasized by the many luminaires mounted in the ceiling and in a special panel located at a remote end of the room. White is quite appropriate for recesses, recesses and the lower tier of cabinets.
